Every IT provider will tell you they focus on security. We do too — but we've built our entire approach around a harder truth: no matter how much you invest in prevention, there is no guarantee against every attack or disaster. What we can guarantee is how we respond when something does happen. Here's what that's looked like in practice.

Zero Data Lost

Recovering from total ransomware encryption — January 2020

One of our clients was hit hard: seven Hyper-V hosts and more than twenty virtual servers were fully encrypted by ransomware — and so were their local backups. For many businesses, that combination is unrecoverable.

Because we had cloud backups and air-gapped backups in place — backups the attackers couldn't reach — we were able to rebuild the environment from the ground up. The recovery took five days and included wiping and rebuilding fifty encrypted workstations in addition to the full server environment. When it was done, the client hadn't lost a single file.

24 Hrs
Full Recovery
Zero Data Lost

When attackers reached the hypervisor

More recently, a client's network was compromised by attackers who found a way past standard defenses to reach the hypervisor layer itself — shutting down virtual machines and encrypting both the drives and the backups attached to them. It's a more advanced attack path than we typically see, and it shouldn't have gotten that far.

But because air-gapped and cloud backups were in place, we recovered the client's full environment and all of their data within 24 hours. That incident is also the reason we added a new layer of protection across our client base — managed detection and response and zero trust endpoint protection — built specifically to catch this kind of attack before it reaches this deep.

Two incidents, two different outcomes in terms of how far the attack reached — but the same result: full recovery, no data lost. That's not luck. It's what happens when recovery and data integrity are built into how we operate from day one. See how we're stopping attacks before they get this far →
